The maker of popular video game Fortnite, Epic Games has raised $1.78 billion in new funding round at a $17.3 billion valuation. Funding consists of primary capital and secondary purchases from employee equity holders.
The funding includes $250 million strategic investment from Sony Corporation that was announced earlier. Investment partners include Baillie Gifford, BlackRock, Fidelity Management & Research Company LLC, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, funds and accounts advised by T. Rowe Price Associates, and David Tepper. Existing investors KKR and Smash Ventures also added to their 2018 investment.
Epic Games, Fortnite has more than 350 million registered players. Epic offers a fundamental toolset for game development called, ‘Unreal Engine’.
