Layoffs, Downsizing, Furloughs – June 11th, 2020

Intellizence tracks the latest layoff, downsizing, employee termination, furlough announcements from multiple news and regulatory filings. Following is the highlight of a few major layoffs of the day. 

 Bombardier     Belfast     600-plus

More than 600 jobs are set to be lost at Bombardier’s aircraft manufacturing plant in Belfast amid the severe downturn in the aviation industry. The planned redundancies include around 400 core staff members and 200-plus contractors that also work at the operation.

Lufthansa    Across Locations  26,000  

The positions of up to 26,000 employees are surplus to requirements, suggesting many more jobs will be cut at the German carrier.

Johnson Matthey    London   2,500 (17%)

Manufacturer Johnson Matthey is cutting 2,500 jobs and halving its dividend as it reels from the impact of coronavirus. The industrial business produces catalytic converters that are used in about one in three cars worldwide.

IBM    USA   240  

Among the jobs being eliminated are software developers, project managers, computer operators, sales specialists, senior management support, software developers. Also, research staff members are among the impacted workers, as well as two vice presidents.

Centrica (British Gas)  Across locations,  5,000  

In total, about 50% of the jobs lost will be in its corporate, management, or leadership teams. The group employs 26,000 people globally with nearly 80% of its workforce based in the UK.

Ethos Technology Austin   14%

facing an economic downturn due to Covid-19, the startup, which was most recently valued at $450 million, laid off 18 employees —14% of its workforce. The company said most of the positions let go were in operations.
