Ilya Sutskever’s AI startup, Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI), has raised $2 billion, bringing its valuation to $32 billion, despite having no product yet. The funding round was led by Greenoaks, with participation from Alphabet, Nvidia, Andreessen Horowitz, and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Alphabet spinout Isomorphic Labs raises $600 million for its AI drug design engine

Isomorphic Labs, an AI-driven drug discovery company spun out from Google’s DeepMind, has raised $600 million in its first external funding round. The round was led by Thrive Capital, with participation from GV (Google Ventures) and follow-on investment from existing backer Alphabet. The company plans to utilize the funds to advance its AI drug design engine and expand its team. Fintech Plaid raises $575 million at a $6.1 billion valuation

Fintech company Plaid has secured $575 million in a funding round, bringing its valuation to $6.1 billion. The valuation is less than half of the $13.4 billion that Plaid was valued at when it raised $425 million in April 2021. The round was led by Franklin Templeton, with participation from Fidelity Management and Research, BlackRock, and existing investors NEA and Ribbit Capital. The company will use the funds to address the tax withholding obligations related to converting expiring restricted stock units (RSUs) into shares.​ It will also allow current employees to sell some of their shares, providing liquidity.​

GoldState Music raises $500 million in strategic capital with investment from Northleaf Capital and Ares Management

Nvidia- and Google-backed SandboxAQ raises $450 million for quantitative AI platforms

The Series E round attracted a mix of strategic and institutional investors, including Google, Nvidia, BNP Paribas, Ray Dalio (Founder, Bridgewater Associates), T. Rowe Price Associates, Breyer Capital, TIME Ventures (Marc Benioff), and Eric Schmidt, Chairman of SandboxAQ and former CEO of Google.​ SandboxAQ plans to utilize the new capital to advance Large Quantitative Models (LQMs), develop Quantum Sensing Technologies, and make LQMs available on platforms like Google Cloud for faster adoption.

Cybersecurity start-up Chainguard raises $356 million at $3.5 billion valuation

Cybersecurity start-up Chainguard has secured $356 million in its Series D funding round. The round was co-led by new backer Kleiner Perkins and existing investor IVP, with participation from Salesforce Ventures, Datadog Ventures, and all existing investors. The latest raise brings Chainguard’s total funding to $612m at a $3.5 billion valuation. Chainguard empowers engineering teams to build products better and faster, achieve and maintain continuous compliance, and ultimately enhance security, efficiency, and reliability within their organizations.

Runway scoops up $308 million Series D round

Runway, a generative AI startup specializing in video and media creation tools, has secured $308 million in a Series D funding round led by General Atlantic. The round also saw participation from Fidelity Management & Research Company, Baillie Gifford, Nvidia, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, and other investors. The funds will enable Runway to enhance its generative AI models, grow its film and animation production studio, and hire additional talent.

Mainspring Energy nabs $258 million to help power data centers

Funding Round: Series F

Industry: Energy & Utilities

Mainspring Energy, a Menlo Park-based clean energy company, has secured $258 million in Series F financing to scale its linear generator business. The round was led by General Catalyst, with participation from Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund, DCVC, Temasek, Marunouchi Innovation Partners, M&G Investments, Pictet Group, and existing investors including Lightrock, LGT Bank, Khosla Ventures, and Gates Frontier. ​The funding will accelerate the production and deployment of its fuel-flexible linear generators. The company will also invest in R&D to further improve the efficiency, scalability, and fuel adaptability of their generators, which can operate on various fuels including natural gas, biogas, hydrogen, and ammonia.

Satellite manufacturer Apex raises $200 million

Funding Round: Series C

Industry: Manufacturing

Apex, a Los Angeles-based satellite manufacturer, has raised $200 million in a Series C funding round to accelerate production and pursue vertical integration.​ The funding was co-led by Point72 Ventures and 8VC with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Washington Harbour Partners, StepStone Group, and others. The funding will be used to develop more subsystems and components in-house to streamline manufacturing processes.
