The following is the analysis of the Intellizence Startup Funding, VC & PE Deals Dataset for January 2025.  The key sectors that attracted significant investments were AI-driven startups, with Anthropic raising a billion dollars in funding, followed by other AI startups.

Infinite Reality raises $3 billion; moves valuation to $12.25 billion

Infinite Reality (iR)™, an innovation company powering the next generation of digital media and e-commerce through extended reality (XR), artificial intelligence (AI), and other immersive technologies, closed a $3 billion round of funding from a private investor whose portfolio focuses on global technology and real estate investments.

Google to invest fresh $1billion in Anthropic

Funding Round: Venture Series Unknown

Google is investing more than $1 billion in generative AI startup Anthropic, bringing its total investment in the Company to approximately $3 billion. Anthropic, one of the key players in Silicon Valley’s artificial intelligence arms race, is in late-stage talks to raise a funding round of $2 billion at a $60 billion valuation led by Lightspeed Venture Partners.

KoBold, the US mining startup backed by Bill Gates, & Jeff Bezos raises $537M

Funding Round: Series C

KoBold Metals, a mining startup backed by prominent investors including Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, has successfully raised $537 million in its Series C funding round, valuing the company at $2.96 billion. Durable Capital Partners LP and T. Rowe Price co-led the round, which included participation from existing investors Andreessen Horowitz and Gates’ Breakthrough Energy Ventures and new investor StepStone Group.

Helion Energy raises $425M to help build a fusion reactor for Microsoft

Funding Round: Series F

Helion Energy, a fusion energy company, has secured $425 million in a Series F funding round, bringing its valuation to $5.4 billion. This round included new investors such as Lightspeed Venture Partners and SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and existing backers including Sam Altman, Mithril Capital, Capricorn Investment Group, Dustin Moskovitz through Good Ventures Foundation, and Nucor. 

General Atlantic-backed biotech start-up Verdiva Bio secures $410 million in initial funding round

Funding Round: Series A

Verdiva Bio, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, has launched with an oversubscribed Series A financing of $411 million. Forbion and General Atlantic co-led the funding round, which included participation from RA Capital Management, OrbiMed, Logos Capital, Lilly Asia Ventures, and LYFE Capital.

Truveta lands $320 million to fuel the creation of a new genome project

Funding Round: Venture Series Unknown

Health data company Truveta raised $320 million in fresh funding to create a giant genomic dataset with a valuation of $1 billion, making it the latest unicorn to emerge from the Seattle region. The company said its Truveta Genome Project is the “largest and most diverse database of genotypic and phenotypic information ever assembled.”

Kardigan raises $300 million Series A

Funding Round: Series A

Kardigan, a California-based heart health company modernizing cardiovascular drug development, raised $300 million in Series A funding. Perceptive Advisors, ARCH Venture Partners, and Sequoia Heritage led the round. The company will use the funds to advance its focus on the areas of greatest unmet need in cardiology. This includes disease opportunities and patient segments that are resistant to or poorly managed by current therapies, including primary and secondary cardiomyopathies leading to heart failure.

Innovaccer secures $275 million in Series F

Funding Round: Series F

Innovaccer, a leading healthcare AI company, raised a $275 million Series F funding round. The round includes participation from B Capital Group, Banner Health, Danaher Ventures LLC, Generation Investment Management, Kaiser Permanente, and M12. This investment will increase Innovaccer’s efforts to expand its collaboration with existing customers, introduce new AI and cloud capabilities, and scale a developer ecosystem on the platform.

WhatNot, the TikTok shop rival, raises funds at a $5 billion valuation

Funding Round: Venture – Series Unknown

Whatnot, a livestream shopping platform that competes with TikTok Shop, raised $265 million at a valuation of $4.97 billion. Greycroft Partners, DST Global, and Avra led the funding round. The startup has emerged as an alternative to TikTok’s shopping features. The company has sold more than $3 billion worth of goods, including sneakers, collectibles, vinyl records, and handbags.

Stoke Space announces $260 million in new investment

Funding Round:  Series C

Stoke Space, the rocket company building the world’s first 100% reusable medium-lift rocket, has raised $260 million in new Series C investment to drive continued growth and innovation.
