In May 2025, the startup ecosystem witnessed a surge in substantial funding rounds across various sectors, reflecting investor confidence in AI, cybersecurity, biotech, and sustainable technologies. Grammarly secures $1 billion from General Catalyst to build AI productivity platform

The San Francisco-based Grammarly secured $1 billion in non-dilutive financing from General Catalyst. This strategic investment will help Grammarly grow from an AI writing tool into an AI-driven productivity platform focusing on sales, marketing, strategic acquisitions, and product development. Non-dilutive funding means Grammarly does not have to give up equity in exchange for the financing.  

Anysphere, which makes Cursor, has raised $900 million

Anysphere, the developer of the AI-powered coding tool Cursor, raised $900 million in a funding round led by Thrive Capital, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz and Accel. The company is now valued at approximately $9 billion, reflecting the growing demand for AI-driven developer tools. According to Intellizence data, the company has raised over $170 million in funding to date. The funding will support expansion into Japan, Korea, the UAE, and Latin America, alongside accelerated go-to-market efforts in existing regions.

Wonder, which runs Grubhub and Blue Apron, raised $600 million

Wonder, the parent company of Grubhub and Blue Apron, secured $600 million in funding to expand its food hall and delivery services. The investment, led by Google Ventures and NEA, will support the company’s plans to nearly double its locations to over 90 by the end of 2025. The food hall company, which completed its acquisition of Grubhub for $650 million about four months ago, is now valued at over $7 billion. 

Elon Musk’s brain implant company, Neuralink, raised $600 million

Elon Musk’s brain-computer interface company, Neuralink, raised $600 million in a funding round that values the company at $9 billion. The funding will support the advancement of its brain implant technology, which has shown promising results in enabling paralyzed individuals to interact with digital devices using their thoughts. Cyera is raising $500 million led by Lightspeed, Greenoaks, and Georgian

Israeli cybersecurity firm Cyera secured $500 million in funding, doubling its valuation to $6 billion. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Greenoaks, and Georgian and aimed to enhance the company’s data security posture management solutions. The company has been expanding its product portfolio beyond data security posture management (DSPM) to include data loss prevention (DLP) capabilities. 

Rippling valued at $16.8 billion as HR software startup raises $450 million

HR tech startup Rippling raised $450 million in a Series G funding round, bringing its valuation to $16.8 billion. The company also initiated a $200 million tender offer to provide liquidity to current and former employees. The latest financing includes participation from a group of new and existing investors. New backers include Sands Capital, GIC, Goldman Sachs Growth, and Baillie Gifford. 

Pathos AI Secures $365 Million in Series D Financing

Industry: Biotechnology

Pathos AI, a biotech firm leveraging AI for oncology drug development, secured $365 million in Series D financing at a valuation of $1.6 billion. The funds will support clinical trials and the development of its multimodal foundation model for cancer research. The company plans to use the funds to advance its AI platform and clinical-stage pipeline. The main focus is on using AI to accelerate drug development by identifying patient populations that would most benefit from specific treatments. 

Airwallex Secures $300 million Series F Funding

Fintech company Airwallex raised $300 million in a Series F funding round, aiming to expand its cross-border payment and financial services. The company, valued at $6.2 billion, plans to use the funds to enhance its global operations and product offerings. This funding round, which includes $150 million in secondary share transfers, raises Airwallex’s total capital to over $1.2 billion. The investment will help expand Airwallex’s infrastructure into new markets and enhance its software offerings for international businesses.

Google, Nvidia back Israeli AI firm’s $300 million series D

AI21 Labs, an Israeli generative AI startup building proprietary large language models, has raised a $300 million Series D funding round, with backing from Google and Nvidia. The company focuses on developing large language models and aims to enhance the reliability of generative AI applications.

Accel is co-leading a $275 million funding round

Funding Round: Series C

Industry: Technology

Accel is co-leading a $275 million funding round into Chaos Industries. Chaos, a defense tech company, sells a suite of communications and radar products, another major bet for the firm on emerging defense companies. The new funding for Los Angeles-based Chaos, a Series C round, will value the company at $2 billion.
